Mount Surprise - Friday 17th

Well here we are in downtown Mount Surprise. Population 65 (this does not include tourists). For such an out of the way place the caravan park - Bedrock Van Park is incredible. Very large - all the sites are drive through, has a really nice pool, huge entertaining/meeting area and the amenities blocks are huge. Showers would hold an orchestra (small one).

Glad we invested in a UHF radio - most of the bridges are one lane and the Kennedy Highway is an important road train route. We saw signs saying "CALL POINT" and didn't know what they meant - we were told that you get on the radio and say (in our case) large caravan approaching blah blah creek - except that we haven't seen blah blah creek as yet! Never mind, we will keep on looking!

Temperature in Mt Surprise today reached 37 degrees - don't know how cold it will be tonight. The park is putting on a steak dinner this evening - $16/head - hmmmm come to think of it we did see a dead cow the other day-----maybe in a few days we will have wallaby stew. We noticed they also have a wood fired pizza oven - don't know where they get them from - haven't seen any on the sides of the road.

We actually saw a few clouds today - no chance of rain though. Tomorrow morning, early, before it gets hot, we are going fossicking for a short while - before it gets hot. Phone/internet signal is confined to the immediate surrounds of the town.

If you could see all the rocks you would understand how this place got its name.

Home sweet home - who is the fat old guy in the background?

Flower on an unknown creeper

The park is full of these ring necked finches

Very fragrant tree - unknown variety

The Savannah train uses this track once per week - it's the only train!
