Cooktown 1st September. Spring is here!

Fine day today! Apparently Cooktown has had 8 inches of rain in the past 24 hours! We still are amazed at the weird wind (Cooktown Bullet) that blows a few times a day - it only lasts for a few seconds and can come from any direction and is about 50 k.p.h. Wish you could hear cos here comes one now!!!!

Apparently the 'season' for the southeners is over now, temperatures are getting near 30 degrees so they are starting to head home - this means we will have no problems getting into van parks now. We are planning on going fishing tomorrow - just to the Cooktown Jetty - nothing too exciting and you just can't rush things.

Keatings Lagoon -the path runs alongside the lagoon and yet
the signs says crocs have been sighted, so be careful!!!!!

The drive to Archer Point was interesting. It passes through various Aboriginal owned lands - and has not seen a grader for a loooong time. Only 12 klms but feels more like 112. Shame the water was so rough, we imagined it would pretty spectacular on a fine day. Drive up to the top of the hill where a navigation beacon stands also showed how good the Nissan is. Got most of the way up in 2WD and only had to resort to 4WD on a couple of occassions. Coming back down was another matter entirely. Low range and 2nd gear. EASY!
